The new Stuttgart City Library on Mailänder Platz was designed as an almost square cube. The building houses around 500,000 books, films, audio volumes, newspapers, magazines, sheet music, pictures and software packages in an area covering more than 20,000 square metres.
The centre of the building features a quiet, light atrium four storeys high with a skylight made of glass bricks, above which there is a funnel shaped gallery area. ASSA ABLOY Sicherheitstechnik GmbH was awarded the contract for fitting the library with a security system. Specifications stated that the building entrances were to be equipped with electronic components that could be centrally managed and could integrateinterior doors using mechatronic systems as required.
Stuttgart City Library is equipped with a +CLIQ locking system. The +CLIQ technology enables a higher level of security in conjunction with mechanical locking systems and allows access authorisations to be granted flexibly. If a key gets lost, the locking authorisation is simply deleted from the locking system. At the same time, access authorisations can also be enabled on a time-limited basis for external service providers such as tradesmen and cleaners. This means that the doors in the building are locked reliably, automatically, and additionally secured by electronic identification.
The library‘s outer shell is protected by the OPENDO neo access control system. The system offers the flexibility that is needed for granting and managing access authorisations.
If changes to access times or rooms become necessary, they take immediate effect on the door thereby avoiding any security breaches. If an identity card is lost or has to be blocked, this can be done without any time delay thanks to the fact that the cylinders are directly connected to the system.
With effeff Escape Door Terminal 1380 from ASSA ABLOY Sicherheitstechnik GmbH, Stuttgart City Library guarantees secure operation of escape route doors irrespective of whether the doors are to be securely locked or opened using access authorization. while also ensuring safe, reliable use of escape routes at all times in emergencysituations. The emergency exit doors are secured by escape door strike 331. It‘s concealed fitting means that it can be fully integrated into the geometry of the door.
Those responsible for the Stuttgart City Library’s security can assign, change or remove access permissions over the system network at any time, ensuring no security breaches.
